Join us for a breathtaking evening of live music, dance and art to celebrate Israel at 70.

Headline act Balkan Beat Box Soundsystem will perform their signature mix of world music, jazz, electronica, hip hop and everything in between with special guest singers Ethiopian Israeli Gili Yalo, Shai Tsabari and Yemenite all-star female group A-WA. They will be joined by Vertigo, Israel’s leading contemporary dance company, making their debut UK performance on the night and classical string quartet Gilad Ephrat Ensemble and other exceptional guests, creating an unforgettable night at the Royal Albert Hall.

A-WA

A-WA (pronounced Ay-Wa) is a band formed by 3 sisters who combine music inspired by the ancient oral history of Yemenite women’s chanting with electronic dance music. Their debut album Habib Galbi brings unique identity with a lot of groove, electronics and a brand new desert beat fragrance. Through their warm and genuine music, that breaks through language barriers and boundaries, A-WA has been making people dance worldwide, embracing all generations and walks of life.

Balkan Beat Box Soundsystem

The Israeli electronica–world fusion outfit promise to bring a variety of exciting sounds to London. A mixture of world, jazz, electro, hip hop and everything in between will be sure to keep your body dancing and your mind mesmerised. This hugely talented band features the widely celebrated former Gogol Bordello member, Ori Kaplan. Tonight, BBB bring their new project, the Balkan Beat Box Soundsystem, to the UK for the very first time.

Gilad Ephrat Ensemble

Gilad Ephrat, who is also a composer and a double bass player, is the visionary creator of the ensemble. Through a new approach to string ensemble performance, the four musicians take their instruments (violin, mandolin, cello, double bass) to the limits of their physical abilities, thereby unveiling the fascinating potential of strings. The unique dialogue among the instruments exchanging roles of melody and accompaniment gives birth to exciting ensemble playing that sweeps the listener into a new world of captivating sounds.

Gili Yalo

Gili Yalo is one of the most intriguing new musicians in the music scene in Israel. From his base in Tel aviv, Gili Yalo has launched a solo career in a new project that combines Ethiopian roots with Soul, Funk, Psychedelic and Jazz music. Gili Yalo, who has collaborated with top music producers Beno Hendler and Uri Kinrot (Boom Pam), incorporates sounds from traditional Ethiopian music into a contemporary music production. The result is an exceptional, rich, vivid melody accompanied by Gili’s unique voice with lyrics in both English and Amharic.

Olga Senderskaya

Israeli soprano Olga Senderskaya was born in Yaroslavl, Russia, studying in Russia and Paris with Ileana Cotrubas.

Olga’s concert career has taken her to St. Petersburg, Paris, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Berlin Vienna, Shanghai and Beijing under the batons of Maestri Zedda, Mehta, Chaslin, Jurowsy and Xu Zhong.

She has performed the title role in ‘Semiramide’ and Michaela (Carmen), and Adele (Fledermaus) with both the Israeli and the Haifa Symphony Orchestras

Shai Tsabari

A unique vocalist who is responsible for these voices, shouts, whistles and applause now moves to center of stage and brings a new spirit to the words of ancient poets Rabbi Saadia Gaon to Ibn Gabirol to Ahuva Ozeri, a show whose charm is breaking the barriers between the artist and audience and combines the traditional and the contemporary.

Shai’s cooperation with Ahuva Ozeri “Me’Alai Demama”, the theme song of an album tribute recently released, which is attended by Berry Sakharof, Ehud Banai, Maor Cohen, Rona Kenan and more. The song became a hit in the Israeli radio stations and was highly regarded among critics and music lovers.

Vertigo Dance Company with the Revolution Orchestra present White Noise

The award winning contemporary dance company Vertigo was founded by Noa Wertheim and Adi Sha'al in Jerusalem in 1992. Tonight they will present the premiere of White Noise, a sensational coproduction of the Vertigo Dance Company and the Revolution Orchestra that weaves together 11 dancers and 11 live musicians, presenting the audience with an inspiring dialogue that embodies the complexity of human life in the constant changes of the modern age.

Suzy Klein

Suzy Klein is an award-winning writer and broadcaster. She hosts Radio 3’s most listened-to programme, Essential Classics – weekdays between 9 and 12. She also writes and presents documentaries and events for BBC Television, co-hosts Saturday Live on BBC Radio 4 and fronts all of the live global cinema broadcasts from the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Rob Rinder

Rob Rinder is best known for his ITV British reality court show ‘Judge Rinder’ which sees real life cases adjudicated over in a studio courtroom. Rob also presents ‘Judge Rinder’s Crime Stories’ lifting the lid on some of Britain’s worst ever crimes and in 2017 Rob re-launched ‘Crown Court’ on ITV, newly named ‘Judge Rinder’s Crown Court’, with a two-part special after a 30-year hiatus.

In 2016, Rob competed on the 14th series of Strictly Come Dancing making it to all the way to week 11 and ending the competition in fifth place.

Rob also released his own book ‘Rinder Rules’ in 2014 which successfully highlights a simple guide to making the law work for you - whoever you are! He is also a columnist for The Sun and the Evening Standard.
